888 Post Street, Seismic Upgrade and Renovation San Francisco, CA

WHAT WE DID

Degenkolb evaluated and designed the seismic strengthening of an existing 31,000 SF, three-story concrete structure located at 888 Post Street (700 Hyde Street), San Francisco, CA.

Degenkolb evaluated and designed the seismic strengthening of an existing 31,000 SF, three-story concrete structure located at 888 Post Street (700 Hyde Street), San Francisco, CA. The retrofitted building is San Francisco’s first Navigation Center that serves transitional youth from ages 18 to 24 with 75 beds, 24/7 homeless shelter access, and other rehabilitation services. Degenkolb developed a 3-dimensional analysis model and performed the seismic evaluation and retrofit design using the non-linear pushover procedure in accordance with ASCE 41. The retrofit design consisted of new concrete shear walls and foundation and diaphragm strengthening. Degenkolb also collaborated closely with the City of San Francisco to determine the appropriate retrofit performance objectives based on intended use of the building.
