WHAT WE DID
Historic renovation of the performing arts center at C.K. McClatchy High School campus to expand its performing and fine arts curriculum.
Renovated the performing arts center at C.K. McClatchy High School campus, a school listed on the National Register of Historic Places, to expand its performing and fine arts curriculum. The existing 1930s-era, 850-seat theater and associated spaces all required significant upgrades for a modern learning environment. The $15.0M project modernized more than 31,000 square-feet of the existing building’s VAPA wing comprised of cast-in-place concrete walls, raised concrete floors, and wood-framed roofs. The design maintained many of the unique features of the original build, including stained glass windows, the vaulted ceiling structure, and the metal caps at the ends of each row of audience chairs. The backstage space now includes a state-of-the-art band room, a dressing room, and a black box for smaller performances and practices. Additional renovations added more space for many other art disciplines within the campus’ art curriculum, including a new 3D Art Studio, 2D Art Studio, Digital Media Studio, Photography Studio, Ceramics Studio, and Piano Lab.
