Degenkolb, as prime consultant, led a team including architects from CH2M Hill in the seismic strengthening of the six-story building. Using non-linear analysis, By utilizing a combination of non-linear time-history analysis for the building structure, and ABAQUS analysis of critical steel EBF connections the strengthening was shifted primary to the perimeter of the first floor and reduced in cost to approximately $2M. Viscous damping devices were installed in six bays around the perimeter of the first floor reducing displacements and floor accelerations at all levels. Construction occurred from $16M in an operational and occupied building.
Features:
· Non-linear advanced analysis
· Eccentrically braced frame building
Benefits:
· Occupied building driving construction
· Analysis reduced cost by $14M.
