Soft Story Retrofit
Glendale Apartment Complex Limited Voluntary Soft Story Seismic Improvements

WHAT WE DID

Developed a voluntary seismic retrofit for a soft-story apartment complex.

Provided limited voluntary seismic improvements to mitigate soft-story conditions at a three story over parking, 67-unit residential complex. The complex was originally constructed in 1968 and totals 52,278 SF. The scope of work included analysis, design, consultation, the preparation of construction documents, and construction administration services.

Features:

  • The seismic retrofit design utilized bolted in place steel moment frames, which maintained the available parking and allowed for steel erection without any field welding.
  • Structural System: Soft-Story Retrofit with Bolted Steel Moment Frames
  • Service: Seismic retrofit

Benefits:

  • The soft story hazard has been reduced, without loss of parking stalls.
