Using performance based engineering (PBE) and advanced analysis, designed the seismic upgrade of a multi-storied concrete structure, approximately 227,000 square feet. To minimize disruption to the student occupants and symbolize the building’s modernization, innovative exterior strengthening schemes were developed and utilized. By pinpointing the exact seismic deficiencies, the upgrade scheme saved $1.4 million in construction costs for this LEED Gold project.
In addition to the seismic upgrade of the existing building this project also included design and construction of a new three-story Hazardous Materials Storage building and pedestrian access ramp. The steel framed structure with reinforced concrete shear walls utilized innovative sliding seat connections to seismically separate the new and existing buildings.
