Sierra College, Kitchen Upgrade

Degenkolb provided structural engineering for the upgrade and renovation of the college’s campus kitchen, originally built in the 1960s. All underground utilities were well beyond their useful life, and the college had been experiencing years of sewer backups and leaking pipes. In addition, all mechanical equipment was past its useful life.

The $4.3 million, 11,750 sq. ft. project included interior demolition, reconfiguration, expansion, and upgrade of new utilities, equipment, and finishes. Interior walls were removed and reconfigured to enlarge the serving area and provide a food court-style experience, with modern materials, improved lighting, and digital ordering. The structural scope also included removal and replacement of interior slabs, removal of non-structural walls for reconfiguration, removal of existing hard-lid ceilings to replace with T-bar ceilings, and new entry roll-up door recessed into the ceiling. The project also included support for new HVAC systems installation.
