Degenkolb is providing construction engineering support on the renovation and seismic retrofit of UC Berkeley’s Giannini Hall, which will protect and preserve the historic shell of the structure. The structural renovation entails new shear walls, footings with rock anchors demolition and relocation of existing footings, and removal of the central line of columns in the main wing. Degenkolb’s construction engineering scope includes temporarily supporting the building interior structure during the demolition and construction phases of the project, which includes temporary shoring of the North, South, and West Walls and of the West Colonnade Columns during foundation demolition and rock anchor placement, temporary shoring of the existing floor and roof framing of the main wing to accommodate the new shearwall being installed through the center of the building, and the temporary support of construction equipment loading and debris and material staging.
