WHAT WE DID

Degenkolb designed the separation of the fifteen-story plus basement concrete Moffitt Hospital and the Medical Sciences Building of similar size to satisfy SB 1953 requirements.

As prime consultant, leading a multi-disciplinary team, Degenkolb designed the separation of the fifteen-story plus basement concrete Moffitt Hospital and the Medical Sciences Building of similar size in order to satisfy SB 1953 requirements. A sophisticated nonlinear push over structural analysis was done for both Moffitt Hospital and the Medical Science Building (MSB). The analysis diminished strengthening needs for the hospital. The team seismically separated the two buildings, installed rated seismic joints in 15 floors, and then strengthened only the MSB.

Features:

  • Awards from ACEC California, SEAONC, SEAOC, NCSEA
  • First non-academic use of model pushout analysis
